Protonex has developed two product lines for end-user customers: PulseTM products for military customers and QuantumTM products for commercial customers. These products offer customers the benefits of fuel cell technology, including extended runtimes at reduced size and weight, without requiring access to hydrogen or other specialty fuel sources.
While any of Protonex' power solutions can run on direct hydrogen, PulseTM and QuantumTM products contains fueling subsystems that allow the systems to run on common organic fuels, such as methanol, propane and diesel. Because fuel cells process fuels electrochemically rather than burning them, running fuel cell systems on carbon-based fuels still retains the environmental benefits associated with fuel cells and other alternative power sources.
Protonex products are based on a unique, patented fuel cell stack design and manufacturing technology. Protonex stacks are best-in-class, delivering the industry's best metrics on virtually all dimensions including weight, size, durability, and lifetime performance. Protonex has performed significant lifecycle testing (greater than 4,000 hours of continuous operation) of existing stacks and continues to refine the technology and manufacturing process to enhance performance and increase lifetime.
The robustness of the Protonex design philosophy is illustrated by the products described in this section. Throughout the development process, including the initial prototype stages, development teams focus on performance, manufacturability, and cost to yield reliable, affordable power solutions of various sizes.
